Curriculum
The Curriculum of Rathore School takes into account that we are a Special School for children who have severe learning difficulties.
The curriculum we offer our pupils consists of the subjects of the revised Northern Ireland Curriculum and our own curriculum that lays emphasis on the development of our pupils' Physical, Social, Life, Communication, Vocational and Leisure skills. The curriculum is delivered in styles that are age appropriate and that parallel the style of delivery used in the primary and secondary sectors of education.
Rathore School is organised into three progressive phases; Early Years / Primary, for pupils in Nursery, Foundation, Key Stage 1 and 2. The Secondary Department; for students in Key Stage 3, 4 and Post-16 for students in our further education department.
Where appropriate the curriculum will be modified in order that we can meet the needs of our pupils. Careful design and planning of the school ensure a distinctive and age appropriate ethos exists at each phase.
The needs of our pupils have helped to determine our school's Aims:
- To provide a caring, supportive, stimulating and structured environment for each of our pupils.
- To develop a curriculum which provides opportunities for each pupil to acquire the knowledge and skills to enable them to achieve their full potential in adult life.
- To work collaboratively as part of a multi-disciplinary team towards meeting the varied and complex needs of our pupils.
- To develop positive relationships between home, school and the wider community.
- To provide a curriculum, which is broad, balanced, differentiated, flexible and relevant to the needs of each of our pupils.
- To systematically monitor and evaluate pupil progress and to celebrate progress and achievement.
- To ensure that the curriculum incorporates legislative requirements.
